Sweet Charlie, I have been so bad about updating this. Trust me, we have been very busy. We finally moved back to the DFW area (May 5, 2012). We are living in an apartment in Euless, TX, until our home is ready for us to move into. You are two, and I can't believe it! You are amazing and funny and beautiful and smart. You still love Yo Gabba Gabba and Mickey Mouse Club House and you have added Elmo to your favorites. You love to dance, sing, and tell jokes. You love animals, all of them! Your sleep is not great, and well, somethings are hard to let go of. Your daddy and I can't make you do anything. He, in particular, loves to spoil you and lets you get away with everything. We are working on getting you to stop throwing things. We have to keep a spill kit with us at all times. Last week you threw a 44 ounce drink on the ground at the mall. Um, not your best moment. We are so proud of you, and love being your parents. You should see the way your daddy looks at you. You have made his world complete and have healed him in so many ways. If you are spoiled when you grow up, it will be our fault. As you know, we worked so very hard to have you. Knowing that we may never get to do this again, we are just cherishing every (most every at least) moment. It has been hard to get you in your own bed, because we know there will be a day when you slam your door behind you and won't want to cuddle. It is so much easier to watch you go to sleep snuggled up to us with a smile on your face. Sorry if you need therapy for that. I saw another mom write a post with Bio info so I'll do that next. I love you so much sweet baby girl.

So many exciting things are going on my love. You have learned how to open and close doors. We need to up the child proofing! You are just into everything.

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Ohhhhh sweet bug, I have been terrible at keeping this up. We are having so much fun with you, I am busy, busy.
Here is what you are up to these days:
You are becoming a picky eater, everyday it is hit or miss. One thing you won't refuse... M&M's.
You are practically running all the time and you are getting into everything! What a mess, this house has become. It's ok though, I am glad you are exploring the world. I just want to keep you in one piece ok?
You have grown so much! At your 15 month visit you had grown two inches in three months! No wonder your sleep has been crazy lately.
You started talking up a storm today, just babbling about everything you saw. We are working on words, but Dadadada seems to apply to most everything.
You can sign: Milk, Up, More, Sleep, Bird, Baby, All done and sort of dog. We know what you mean at least.
You are obsessed with dogs, cats, and birds.
Signing Twinkle Twinkle, and Itsy Bitsy will quiet you down if you are fussy. You love those songs and can do the movements to both songs, including "the diamond" part. Your daddy is soooo proud of that! You also love the "Hot Dog Dance" and you swing your arms along. When you want to watch MMCH, that is what you do, so I get you sign that.
You LOVE "YO Gabba Gabba"! OH MY! You can watch it over and over. When you want us to turn it on, you kick your leg three times! We love it and although you aren't supposed to watch TV that much, we can't help ourselves when you kick your leg.
You have so many teeth coming in at once, I can't keep track! Your molars are coming in and they really bother you. It seemed to take forever for them to finally break through the skin. The top two are coming down and the bottom two are breaking through the skin as of today. The third and fourth teeth on the bottom front are coming in as well. The one on your left came in first.
What else???? We took another trip to the condo in Galveston. You love the water and had a blast at Moody Gardens. The sea lions were playing with you through the glass. You also had tons of fun playing with your cousins Rowan and Axle.
You and I are trying to get over a nasty cold. This was by far the worst cold you have had, although, thankfully, you haven't had fever.
Your sleep has been not great thanks to the teething and cold. You are up until as late as 2:00am some nights. Grrrr.... we all need some sleep. You were such a great sleeper most of your life, I guess this is the true sleep deprivation that people talk about. I am exhausted. I love you sweet baby!

Sweet baby a ton has happened since I last updated. While we were in Fort Worth you had your first trip to the ER. You had been sick and you woke up with a fever that was over 104. Panicked we rushed you there at 5am. Poor baby, they had to poke you three times to get blood, it was just awful. You finally fell asleep and we watched "Dispicable Me" waited for your results. We never found out what it was, but they sent us home and with in a few days you were fine. This week, on Monday, you had your first bout with a tummy virus. Poor baby. I hate it when you are sick. It makes your daddy and I so nervous. Now, for the good stuff: You are sooo funny! Everyday you make us laugh. Your new thing is dancing along with the music, you LOVE "The Hot Dog Dance" from "Mickey Mouse" and "Yo Gabba Gabba". You are also doing the hand movements to "Itsy Bitsy Spider" (your very favorite) and "Twinkle Twinkle". You are so smart! You have learned to say "please" by putting your little hands together. It is SOOOOO cute, you get a ton of mini M&M's by doing that. Tomorrow we are flying to Denver. I am praying that you tolerate it well. My "Enter" button is not functioning because you beat up my laptop keyboard, so I am going to need to come back and fix this entry. You still are just babbling a lot, but the words are very clear, except of course, for Dada and Hi(sometimes). You started growling, which is funny. Ohhh... you can point to "cat" "Baby" and "balloon" if I show you a group of pictures. You know where your tummy and nose are and we can tell you wipe your face and you will take a wipe and tickle your face, it is so cute. I love you little girl, you are everything to us!! Muah!

Hi baby! We are in Fort Worth for the week with your daddy. You are so active now, it is hard to keep up with you and it is really hard to keep you safe in a hotel room. We had a little birthday party for you with your friends in San Antonio. It was so much fun! I miss our home in McKinney, but I love our new friends and I feel like we have built a little life for ourselves in San Antonio.

I thought I would tell you the story behind your name:
I was talking with your Aunt Kathy on the phone when she said, "Hi Charlie!" I said who is that and she explained that a little girl was over and that her name was Charlotte, but went by Charlie. I fell in love with the name right there. I told your daddy about it and he loved it too. It fits so well, because we really wanted a "C" name after your grandfather Christopher. Also, your daddy was born in the city of Charlotte Amalie, on the island of St. Thomas!
To be fair, we didn't decide on your name until three days after you were born. You were almost a Caroline or an Emily. We also liked Elenore, Marjorie, Elizabeth, Catherine, and Addison. In the end, it was either Caroline or Charlotte and we picked Charlotte. By the way, your daddy volunteers your name to everyone who comes in contact with you. He really likes that you go by Charlie and people melt when they hear it. You are so girly and beautiful!

I love you baby girl!

Darling Bug, you are my little angel! I had to go to the doctor today and I took you. I couldn't get the nurses away from me and the receptionist came up and squeezed your cheeks. It is so like being with a celebrity!

Anyway, you are walking so well now and your balance is excellent. I am so proud of you. As you know by now, we so desperately wanted to have you! I went through years of pain and disappointment trying to get pregnant. I pray you never know what that is like. So, if we clap a little louder than other parents, and if we seem to get teary eyed when you do something, it is because we never thought we would get to have you.

We used to go to baby showers, birthday parties and other events with friends that had children. I would sometimes become really sad and jealous. Your daddy, would just promise me that "someday" it will be our turn. Now it is our turn, and trust me we are not wasting one opportunity to cover you with love.

I am actually getting a bad back, because I sit on the floor with you all day, playing. I wouldn't change it though. I just can't believe that I was so blessed with you. You are so beautiful, smart and funny! OK, so every time I write, I say the same thing. It is because I just feel so overwhelmed with gratitude that I get the chance to be a mom, and that I am your mom. By the way, I am still waiting for you to say "Mama." I will wait until you are ready. I love you sweet baby!!!!

Tuesday, June 7, 2011

Sweet baby girl, you are walking almost full time now!! WOW, you are amazing! I can't get over how fast you are changing. You also started saying "HI" yesterday too. You actually say "Hiya" or "Heyo" sometimes. I love taking you infront of the mirror, where you wave and say "hi".

Your BFF Sissy scratched your face today, just above your lip. I am not happy with her at all. I know she didn't mean to do it, but I want to keep her away from you now. You love her so much, you have started screaming trying to call them over. They (Bud and Sissy) aren't fond of your screatching, but you seem to think it works. We will work on "Here kitty."

So, your daddy is in Philidelphia for work. He left on Sunday and will be home on Friday. This is the first time since you were 8 weeks old that we have had this much time just the two of us. I am loving our girl time, but I so appriciate the time your daddy spends with you. He gives you a bath, and you don't like it when mommy does it. You guys have a system.

That is what is going on. I love you so much! Mommy!

Happy Birthday baby girl. I can't believe it has been a year! For your birthday, we went to dinner at Red Robin. Not a fancy place, but you love it. We came home and had ice cream cup cakes and opened presents. You got a ton of stuff, a learning home, bubbles (your favorite), blocks, a ball pit and a bunch of other little things that I have already given you. Your grandjan gave you a stroller for your dolly and a pop up activity center. Your grandmax gave you a box with her voice recorded reading to you. I could go on and on, trust me, you have a ton of stuff!

Now, I will go into detail at some point, but you almost died on us a few times after you were born. You are healthy now, but you spent the first 8 days of your life in the hospital in the NICU. For that reason, your dad and I decided that you will have a birthday week. When you have brother or sister, I will have to reevaluate this.

This has been the best year of my life! I love you soooooo much.

Talking and signing

Everyday we are learning new things!! The other night you said "Da Da!" You babble a ton, but this was directed at your Daddy. I thought your dad was going to cry he was thrilled.
Over the last 24 hours you started signing for "milk" when you want to nurse!! You are so smart. You are blowing lots of kisses now too. We went to Dallas for a visit and you were blowing them to everyone.

We had so much fun in Dallas. We went to the zoo and to the aquarium. You loved the penguins and the giraffes at the zoo. You loved everything about the aquarium. When we move back we will get memberships to both. Honestly, I loved them as much or more than you did. I love animals and the Dallas Zoo is exceptional! The San Antonio Zoo, not so much, but it will do while we are here. I bought a membership there, and we have been several times. I wish it were nicer for the animals that live there.

Right now you are a Mickey Mouse fan, so we bought you a ton of MM stuff for your birthday. We stopped in Georgetown today to see Grandjan and Bob and she threw a little birthday party for you, complete with MM plates, cups, napkins and decorations. You also got a MM cake and balloon!!

I can't believe you are almost 1!!! I loving watching you learn and develop, but it all seems like it is flying by. You are the greatest gift I have ever been given.

Monday, May 9, 2011

Sweet bug! You took three steps tonight!!! Your daddy was coaxing you with mini, M&M's and like any Friedman girl, you moved. You also started blowing kisses in the last few days. Today, you really got it down. Our other new favorite thing is when you clench your fists and pull your mouth down and open your eyes, like you are straining. It is soooo cute, you do it just to make us laugh. You are so funny. You are on your tummmy, sleeping with us and you just sat up with your eyes closed and fell backward. Luckily, there are pillows and you just felling into them and are back asleep.

We love you and I can't believe your birthday is coming up!! Oh, your daddy was promoted and we are so excited. Yay Daddy!!!

Love you sweet baby!

You are beautiful, smart, charming and sweet! Your father and I are just so lucky!
Here is what is new with you: you are so mobile! I am exhausted, but I love seeing you crawl around. You are also getting closer to walking.

You love to give sloppy kisses and head butt us. You will eat just about anything we are eating. You love cheese, pancakes, waffles, veggies, chicken and turkey. You can eat cupfulls of blue berries, it is amazing!

You have all four teeth up top and the same two on the bottom. Poor baby, the top ones were tough on you.
We went to the ranch last weekend and you had a blast. I took the most amazing pictures of you. Even the steers in the pen were enchanted with you. There weren't any Bluebonnets out this year. :(

We are going back this weekend for Easter and I will keep looking. I would love to take some pictures of you petting the horses. I will post some when we get home.

I love you sweet baby!

New things

New things! You have started to point and wave and you can throw a ball now! Things are progressing so quickly I hope that I can keep up with everything. You move constantly and naps are decreasing in the last few days. I am so tired! You have started a ritual with your daddy everynight putting the cars in the garage. You LOVE this! He puts you on the center console and drives into the garage, you laugh and clap and raise your arms up in the air. I like to stand in the garage and watch you guys. You also love to press the garage door opener. You daddy says that he can't figure it out and that you need to help him. You went to bed early tonight so he had to manage on his own. I need to get all of this on camera.

He looked at me with a sad expression and said that some day he will ask you to help him and you will say "no" and that he would miss this. I am so glad that he appriciates the time and experience with you.

We love you so much!

You are crawling!!

You are on the move now. You started crawling this week. Today, you really got going. You are still working on your form, but you are an amazingly smart and strong little girl. Not much going on this week other than chasing you around the room.

We went to feed the ducks today with a few other kiddo's and we are going to the zoo on Friday with our Gymboree friends. You liked the ducks, but it was kind of warm out so we didn't stay long. You have my skin and you will burn very quickly. If I have taught you well, then you will stay out of the sun, it is not our friend. I am sorry that you will have spent your childhood in those special SPF swimsuits and sun screen from head to toe. I know other mom's just let their kiddo's run around with out. Both your father and I slather it on everyday. Someday, when you are in your 30's you will thank me. I wish I had done a better job protecting myself when I was younger. I have never been a sun worshiper, but I had a pool in my backyard growing up and one at the ranch and I lived outside as a kid. Your grandmother tried, but they didn't know as much about the damage that sun will do to you as they do now.

We love you scooter. Mommy

Hi sweet baby girl. I am sorry I am so neglectful of writing in this journal. So much is happening. You are growing so fast, and changing constantly. Here is what is going on so far:

You are sort of crawling now, that just started a few days ago. We are thrilled to see you make progress. You would really rather walk then crawl, but you are not ready for that yet. You can stand on your own for about 8 seconds before you sit down. Yay! You are getting so active!

One of your top teeth (the one on your right) broke through the skin on Sunday! It seems like you have been teething forever! You are uncomfortable, and we hurt for you.

You had your first cold about three weeks ago. It was hard to watch. You were so stuffy and your chest was congested. The first night you were so miserable that your dad strapped you into the baby carrier and walked around the neighborhood for almost 2 hours, from around 4am-6am. It got better from there, but we just wanted to make you feel better. The doctor gave you a nebulizer to take home and we did breathing treatments, um, you didn't like that at all.

Your favorite food currently is blue berries! You can eat them non-stop!

You still sleep between your daddy and I. You started waking up a couple of times a night crying, which is out of character for you. I think your mouth hurts.

You are still a little celebrity. People take pictures of you and stop us all the time to touch your feet. You smile so much that people can't help themselves.

New nickname: Cuckoo Banana's

I love you sweet girl. Thank you for being you.

Moving!

Bugs,

we are moving into a rent house tomorrow. As of tomorrow night, you will have lived in three houses in the 8 short months of your life. You have been so great and easy going while we are packing. Your daddy takes breaks to come kiss your head, he is working so hard for us. Yesterday, you reached your arms out for the first time for him to pick you up. He was so excited!

You are so close to crawling, I can't wait. Although, I know once you get started, I will never get to sit again. Watching you grow and learn is amazing to me! You concentrate so hard, and have a quiet determination. That said, you are starting to show your preferences, you will turn your head and push things away that you don't want. Wow, my independant baby! You are also starting the stranger anxiety phase, I don't like seeing you scared, but I can't keep you in the house forever. Cowboy came to visit last weekend and when he picked you up, you pushed out your lower lip. It was really cute!

I am so happy I get to stay home with you. I will write all about that sometime.

I love you sweet baby girl.

Bear: You are cuddled up with your daddy right now and it is so sweet. He was reading a book to you tonight called, "On the Night You Were Born" and you were turning the pages. He just looked at me, like he couldn't stand it. I mean, he was beaming. He thanked you for being who you are.

We had a great time at Gymboree yesterday, and lots of fun at Little Gym today. We are both worn out from all of the activity. You like to forward roll, but not go back so much. I don't think any of the kids in the class do. There were two daddy's in with us today. When I told your father, he was disappointed that he couldn't go. He has been several times, and loves to participate. Some of the daddy's sit and watch. Not yours, he is up dancing around with you and helping you roll.
I am going to try to go to sleep. I love you sweet Bear.

About your family!

Since I can't sleep I will tell you about the history of education in your family tree.
Every woman on my side of the family, including both great-grandma's have college degrees. This is extreamly rare, not many women were educated back then.

Great-Grandma Honey- Degree in Social Work She worked both as a medical social worker and as a fraternity house mother. That must have been fun!
Great-Grandma Marjorie: Degree from University of Oregon. I believe she was an executive assistant, but married Great-Grandpa John right after that so she stayed at home.
Grandjan: BS Mathematics (smarty pants) from Oklahoma State University and a Masters in Computer Science from University of Houston. She worked in Computers for Shell Oil out of college. She stayed home with us and then went back to work as a recruiter and human resources person until she retired.
Aunt Kathy: College degree from UT in Psychology and a Masters of Psychology from Pepperdine in California. She stayed at home with your nephews and niece for a few years and now works as a recruiter.
Aunt Misty: Degree in Computers (IT)from Texas A&M
Great Aunt Barbara: also has a degree and had a very successful recruiting company for many years in Houston.
My cousin Pam has a degree in Advertising from UT, she works in advertising in Chicago now.
My cousin Raechel will soon graduate with a degree in nutrition from Texas State.

I received my degree in Health Promotion-Community Health and a minor in Psychology. I hope to go back to get a masters some day after you are in school. I went to University of Houston.
Your daddy's family is full of college educated women as well:
Grandmax- LVN. She was a psychiatric nurse and now helps people who call with questions.
Aunt Jennifer: BS in Journalism from Florida. She is a stay at home mom.
I will try to find out more about his side of the family!

About the smart men in your family!
Great Grandpa John (my mom's father)- Phd. in Chemistry. He was a chemist I will need to write a whole section on what a genius he was.
Great-grandpa Newton "Big" was a Rabbi and has a Doctorate. Again, I will write a whole post on what a pioneer he was for civil rights. He was an amazing man.
Great-grandpa A.D. "Poppy" He was Honey's second husband and he was also a wonderful Rabbi.
Your Grandpa Gary "Cowboy" Degree from Lamar University. Medical Doctorate Degree (MD) from Baylor Medical School. He attended UC San Fransisco for his internship and back to Baylor for his residency. He is a famous and brilliant medical doctor. Expect to hear tons about him.
Uncle Rick: Degree in finance and business from University of Houston. He is a investment professional.
My cousin Charles went to the Naval Acadamy and is a very important person in the military. He is in charge of an aircraft carrier and has a masters degree.
My other cousin Chase is currently enrolled at A&M. We hope he will graduate since he has been in college for almost 10 years.

Your fathers side of the family:
Grandchris- was a psychologist. He worked for the Veteran's Administration. We believe he went to school in Michigan.
Uncle Aaron- has a BS in Computer Science from UH. He currently works for a video game manufacturer.
Your Uncle Chris

Happy New Year!

Here is a run down of the excitement that was your first New Years Eve. I got some sleep, yay! We went to Lowes, grabbed a subway sandwich from Jimmy Johns for dinner and then home by 6:00. You haven't been feeling well, I am praying you aren't getting sick. Knock on wood (I am superstitious like most Jewish women), you haven't been sick yet, I would like it to stay that way.
2010 was an amazing year: you entered our lives and made my dreams come true! I love you! 2011, G-d willing, you will learn to walk, talk and dance! I can't wait to see it unfold.
You are sleeping with your arms up and your daddy is snoring away. Happy New Year baby girl!

Merry Christmas and Happy 7 months!

Hi baby girl! We are at Grandjans for your first Christmas. You have been such a peaceful, sweet and happy baby. We have loved celebrating your first Hanukkah and Christmas with you. I will write post about all of the wonderful gifts you received. To be honest, and you will appreciate this one day, we sort of took it easy this year on the gifts. You have so many wonderful toys, you simply wouldn't have time to play with many more. Still, you received a nice amount of new things.

Here is what you are up to going into your 7Th month:

You have two teeth now! You haven't had that much trouble (read: being crabby) teething, I have been pleasantly surprised. The one on your right came in first at Thanksgiving and the left one broke through about three weeks later on December 10th.

You are eating tons of baby food now. You really like peas (are you my child?), pears, prunes, sweet potato, harvest vegetables, squash and anything with oatmeal in it. Not too keen on meats, but they are all mushed up anyway. You LOVE your puffs, they are little star shaped bite sized puffs that dissolve when you gum them a little.

You started drinking water from a sippy cup tonight, we were thrilled. You have been demanding water through a straw. This is something that your daddy started doing. We dip a straw in a bottle of water and put the end in your mouth and let you bite and sort of suck on the straw to get the water. You love doing this, but it is dangerous and you get irritated if we don't fill the straw fast enough, so we are excited that you will drink from a cup.

You can sit up on your own for long periods of time now and you scoot on your back to get around. Don't tell anyone but a few weeks ago you fell off the bed while you were napping with me. You fell on a pillow thank God and there was not a bump or scratch anywhere. I was terrified and was screaming like a crazy person. You stopped crying right away and went back to playing. Quit pulling that kind of stuff ok?

You currently are refusing to roll over, because you know it makes me worry about your development. I know you can do it, since you still sleep on your side and can roll yourself from your back to either side with no issue while you are practically asleep. You also have no interest in crawling... You are still young, but we need to work on that. You would rather stand than sit so you will probably walk instead of crawl. When you have your own babies, you will obsess about this too.

You love it when daddy juggles. Oh my goodness! You laugh and laugh and laugh. He starts laughing because he loves to hear you laugh and then he drops what he is juggling. Lately, toilet paper rolls seem to make you laugh the hardest. You also love it when daddy says "Can I have a drink?" There is a story behind the statement, but the first time he said it you laughed so hard and now he says it all the time to make you giggle.

Sissy, the kitty, is still your best friend. She is very patient when you grab her fur and pull her hair. Buddy is not sure he wants to play.

Tonight is Christmas night (technically the night after Christmas since it is 2:57 am) and I am still awake, your daddy is snoring next to you and you are between us. How you can sleep through that I don't know. You were not interested in going to sleep until almost 2:00am, although you took a few naps tonight. You don't cry or anything, you just want to play. We went to look at Christmas lights and I think we missed the window to get you to sleep at a decent hour. Sorry about that. Bad parent alert: since we were just driving through the neighborhood, you sat on my lap, you love that.

I need to be better at keeping a journal for you. I hope that one day when you are in your 20's, 30's or so on, you read this and get an idea of how loved you are and how much fun we had with you when you were a baby. I have never met a daddy that is as involved and in love with his child. I picked an amazing father for you, it is the best thing I have ever done. I need to devote a post to just telling you more about how wonderful he is. I pray that you meet someone just like him some day.

I love you sweet baby! Merry Christmas and Happy 7th month in the world.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi baby girl! We have been very busy this past week. We drove to Georgetown to see Grandjan and Bob for Thanksgiving. The Talcott's, your Uncle Rick and G-Jan and Bob were there to see you. We dressed you up in the cutest turkey outfit, I will attach a pic. We stopped to eat on our way there and people walked up to look at you, a group of little girls wanted to take your picture! My little celebrity!
You turned 6 months on Thanksgiving, we celebrated with prunes and peas, your favorites.
On Friday night, we went to see your Uncle Aaron, Aunt Rachel and cousins, Axel and Rowan. We took pictures of all of the cousins. Rachel sat you in a high chair for the first time, you were sleepy so that didn't last very long.

On Saturday , we drove to the ranch to see Cowboy and Vicki. Uncle Rick, Aunt Kathy and all of your cousins were there. On Saturday night, we were eating and your daddy noticed that you had spikes of a tooth coming through your gums! Your FIRST TOOTH, we were so proud! My baby girl is growing so fast.

Today is Tuesday, we went to Gymboree and attended the step two class. You were the youngest there, but you were engaged and interested. You love the parachute and when we sing songs. You are still too little to crawl, but you push with your feet and we know it won't be long.

After class, you had your 6 month appointment. You haven't grown much in length in the past two months, but you are right where you should be. You are perfectly propotionate. We skipped shots today since I just didn't feel like you were up to it today... I hate that you have to get them, but I know they are good for you and you only cry a tiny bit. Your Pediatrician called you "radiant" and "joyful." I agree.

One of my friends just found out she is pregnant, she called today to tell me. I started to cry because I know what an amazing gift being a mommy is. Thank you for being my darling baby girl.

6 Month stats:
Foods: Rice Cereal and stage one fruits and veggies, mama's milk
Favorite toys: Emily Doll,
Twisty Toy,

Freddy the Firefly

You LOVE Harry the Bunny and you are obsessed with Bud and Sissy. I am praying you learn to "pet" instead of yank clumps of hair.

What makes you laugh: Dancing with daddy, Mom's ponytail, Bud and Sissy, Kisses, funny noises, Peek-a-boo.
What makes you cry: Sometimes strangers, when you are sleepy sometimes, shots, bibs,

That is all I can think of right now, I am going to try to sleep cuddled up next to you. Please stop waking mommy up by pulling hair and pinching my face. Thank you!
